Manitowoc County Genealogical Society Meeting Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at 6pm. Balkansky Room,  Manitowoc Public Library, 707 Quay St., Manitowoc, WI.  The program will be  “It’s All Online!  Or Is It!” with Lori Bessler, genealogy and local history specialist, Wisconsin Historical Society’s Library, Archives and Museum Collections division.  Learn about valuable web sites, making the most of your online searches, and how to organize your online research.  If you’re interested in researching your family this is a program not to miss.  The public is welcome to attend.

We also offer genealogy help on Tuesdays from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Manitowoc History area of the Manitowoc Public Library.

Manitowoc County Genealogical Society Meeting Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at 6pm.  Balkansky Room, Manitowoc Public Library, 707 Quay St., Manitowoc, WI    Program:   Federal Government Publications for Genealogical Research, with Anne Kasuboski, MLIS.  The National Archives has a wealth of information for the genealogist, but another not so well known source of information are Federal Depository Libraries. Federal Depository Libraries store information from the U.S. Government Printing Office; the largest publisher in the world.  Let’s find out where these libraries are located, and what they offer to the family history researcher.  Anne Kasuboski, MLIS, whose research specialty is government publications, will present a very informative program on Federal Government Publications for Genealogical Research.   The public is welcome.

November Manitowoc County Genealogical Society Meeting                                       Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at 6pm in the Balkansky Room, Manitowoc Public Library, 707 Quay St., Manitowoc, WI    Program: “A Look at Old German Records”, with Karyl Rommelfanger.  Now is your chance. Bring in a photocopy of an old German document and have some help translating it. (Please don’t bring any original documents.  They are too precious and irreplaceable.) .  Karyl holds degrees in German and History and has taught German in the public schools for 36 years, most of those years here in Manitowoc.   She’s a true wealth of information.  Visitors Welcome!  MCGS volunteers generously offer genealogy help on Tuesdays from 3pm–5pm in the Local History Area of Manitowoc Public Library.

“Genetically Speaking: DNA Workshop” with Mary Eberle                                    Saturday, October 13, 2018, 9:00am -2:30pm, Balkansky Community Room ABC, Manitowoc Public Library, 707 Quay St., Manitowoc, WI                                                      DNA Workshop & lunch provided for free. Registration required.

Join Mary Eberle, an experienced genealogist and DNA expert, for a workshop to help you understand your DNA results.  This workshop is designed for beginners, but also covers more advanced topics.  Presentations include:

  1. Introduction to Using DNA for Genealogy Research: This talk covers DNA basics, available tests, and how to develop your DNA testing plan.
  2. Using Autosomal DNA for Genealogy Research: Autosomal DNA provides the most useful information for most genealogists. Learn how to analyze your test results and find common ancestors with your DNA matches.
  3. Using Y-DNA, Mitochondrial DNA, and X-DNA for Genealogy Research: Understanding when these types of DNA can help (and when they won’t) is crucial. Learn how these types of DNA can be used to answer your genealogy questions.
  4. Hands-on Exercise: This exercise will go through interpreting one person’s DNA results from Ancestry. Learn some tricks for clarifying and making the most of your DNA test results.

About Mary Eberle:

Mary Eberle – Owner of DNA Hunters, LLC

Mary Eberle is an experienced genealogist and a DNA expert. She’s a former patent attorney with extensive DNA experience.  Mary began her work in the field of DNA research 30 years ago.  She developed DNA tests to match transplant donors and recipients.  She wrote and published many scientific papers on this work and presented at scientific conferences.
